Hi Konkreetgurl,
My daughter has a JW boyfriend, although they are quite a bit younger than you are. I have this feeling that things will start to get very confusing for you.
Welcome, and you will find the people here very helful in understanding this alien, somewhat scary religious group. -

An excellent book on insulin resistance is "Eat Yourself Slim" by Michel Montignac. Someday, I will have the will power to follow it.
Sigh...I, too, fight the battle of the bulge. -

Knock Knock...
by KistByQpid ini'd be interested in hearing some of the exjw's door-to-door experiences.
i've probably had the saturday morning door knocking...maybe 6-8 times.
i've never been "rude" except for once...when i had a particularly aggressive pair who wouldn't take "no thank you" for an answer.

We never get JW calling at our house (well, maybe once in 13 years), and I never see them in the neighbourhood. I would just LOVE them to show up now that I know at least a few questions to ask them. I would still try to be polite though.

Some "Informal Preaching" with my Par...
by mindfield inhi everyone.... as some read in my "an update on my situation" post, i'm trying to gradually leak some small truths to my parents... the key word being gradually.
so, a few hours ago, we received a phone call from a "brother" in the cong... he was excited about something.
my dad took the call, and started asking something about abc (the tv channel).

Hi mf,
I think that you are handling the situation very well. Be patient with your parents. I'm guessing that the longer that you stay consistant in your beliefs, the more credibility you will have. It may take years, but bit by bit, perhaps some of the things you say will at least modify their beliefs. -

Hello...may I post here?
by KistByQpid ini've been lurking here for some time now.
i'm not a jw, never been a jw, and don't plan on becoming a jw...however my life has been effected by the jw's whether i like it or not (dad's death/mom's conversion).
seems most here are exjw's or jws...so i'm not too sure if i'm welcome or not?

Hi QPID,
Welcome, I'm not JW either. The people on this board are really great at letting us see into that really alien JW world. It still boggles my mind. -

She's Leaving Home..Bye Bye..
by Englishman inyour 20 year old son / daughter announces that he / she is involved in an intense relationship with someone that is causing you to have some misgivings.. said offspring also announces that wedding bells will be ringing inside a year or two.
firstly though, our two lovebirds have plans to set up home together and live in delightful sin whilst they save up for the big day.

I have an 18 year old son, as well as Birdie, so this is a situation that I have thought of many times. I admit I personally find it hard, but we have to let our kids go and make their own decisions, including mistakes.
I lean towards Nelly and Mulan's take on the situation. Don't create an adversarial situation, because they are going to do what they want anyway. He is a self sufficient adult, so it really is his business. You want to give them room to be able to back out of the situation with whatever dignity and grace is possible if it isn't working. Real life will sort it out. I would, however, encourage birth control.
How do her parents feel about it?

Will,
I saw the same show and had the same reaction. Can you imagine how hard it would be to live in that little town with that horrible, very powerful person there? Not much of a "man of god" is he?My husband and son know very little about dubdom, and were somewhat startled as I kept exclaining "THE JW'S DO THAT TOO!!!!" I don't think many outsiders have any idea of how controlled the JW life is!
